blogging for Tesla and more

April is the month when Earth Day is getting celebrated and it is becoming more popular every year…

We have the EarthDay NY Grand Central celebrations, bike rides, workshops, organic dinner parties, fundraising events and many more…

On Earth Day, the sequel to “Who killed the electric car” is getting released during the Tribecca film festival, I found out about it while doing research for TESLA for whom I am blogging occasionally.

In what follows, I have copied my first entry, written a week after the debut of Spring. It inspires people to get outdoors, whatever transportation mode they are choosing….TESLA style of course…and if you can’t leave, then by all means, bring nature indoors… a great recommendation I can share with you is the work of Andy Goldsworthy, a brilliant environmental artist, who will make you fall in love with the treasures of our planet, all while sitting comfortably indoors, as you can obtain his work on DVD’s. It will make you want to run for your hiking gear and embrace a tree.

SUSTAINABLE LIFESTYLES by Pamela Peeters

New York, NY, March 27th, 2011

With a week into Spring, some of our beloved trees in Central Park are daring enough to get ready for showtime.  As the days are getting longer and the temperatures are rising, more and more nature lovers and tourists will flock to our favorite green lung and get lost in its labyrinth of beauty.  New Yorkers love this piece of green that hosts 25 million visitors annually.

The start of Spring is also a great moment to get your car out of its hibernation and take it for a spin.

DESTINATION ELECTRIC

As an environmental economist specialized in Sustainable Development, I became conscious about the greener transportation alternatives in 1998 while working on the Belgian market introduction of the smart car. Already in college I had promoted several top car brands at the Brussels auto salon and even conducted research on the readiness of the Belgian car owner towards the integration of catalytic converters in their automobiles. This tool – aimed at reducing vehicle emissions - eventually became the norm. With my knowledge of many other sustainable alternatives to existing consumer products and services and international visionary agents of change, my desire to create the first television show that would deal with sustainable lifestyles grew. The “Our Planet” tv show was born and soon after that, my “Sustainable Planet” Film Festival was developed as well.

Some 9 years later it was Tesla who began working with Germany’s Daimler AG on power train components for an electric version of the German company’s smart two-seater city car. At that time, I got around town on a bike and even filmed a segment of my “Our Planet” television show while pedaling in a bike tour on Earth Day.  Currently, Tesla is producing the battery packs and chargers for an initial 1,000-unit fleet of EV Smarts.

As a sustainable media producer, I am always on the lookout for more intelligent content that represents the themes of transportation, energy, food, water, sustainable cities, community building initiatives and so on.   The “who killed the electric car” ( insert link here :http://www.tribecafilm.com/filmguide/revenge_of_the_electric_car-film34237.html ) documentary passed my radar too and for those who wonder what the production team has been up to, I have great news to share : a sequel has been made.

“Revenge of the electric car” will have its world premier on April 22nd - better know as Earth Day - at the Tribecca Film Festival. The Tesla Roadster is featured in this documentary as well by Executive Producer Stefano Durdic who set up camp in the parking lot of the Academy for Global Citizenship, a school in the South side of Chicago. Here, the Tesla is used as the example to teach young students about electric cars.

So while we are all counting down the days for the director of the film Chris Paine to tell the story of resuscitation of the electric car, we can all consider a Spring road trip ( why not a TESLA test drive ) while enjoying a green destination: the spring blossom festivals are not far away.

Enjoy the road, drive sustainably!
